Collaborative for REMS Education (CO*RE)
The misuse and abuse of extended-release and long-acting (ER/LA) opioids is a major public health problem. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported the following:
- From 2000 to 2015 more than half a million people died from drug overdoses.
- 91 Americans die every day from an opioid overdose.
CAFP recognizes the public health imperative to address the opioid crisis and has partnered with other organizations to provide continuing education to health care providers across the country. CAFP is a founding member of CO*RE, a group of 10 health care professional organizations that provides opioid education and information about the latest on state level data, regulations and laws related to opioids.
Curing Hepatitis C: The Time is Now
The CAFP is pleased to be working in collaboration with Project Inform on an educational initiative to increase screening rates for Hep C, encourage family physicians and other primary care physicians to treat of Hep C patients in their practices, and offer tools and resources to support both activities. The initiative includes live and enduring education for you and your team.
Diabetes Resources page
Diabetes is a national epidemic with an increasing prevalence in the United States. As of 2014, 29.1 million children and adults – or 9.3 percent of the US population – have diabetes, with an estimated 27 percent undiagnosed. (CDC 2014) In adults, type 2 diabetes accounts for about 90 to 95 percent of all diagnosed cases of diabetes. (ADA 2016).

CHADS-2 Stroke Risk Assessment Tool
Family Physicians and other primary care physicians who have participated in CAFP's TEAM-A activities cite the increased use of a CHADS2 tool for risk assessment as the number one change in practice. This easy to use tool is perfect for assessing stroke risk and counseling patients about drug therapy options.
Faculty members for CAFP’s most recent migraine education initiative have recommended this screening tool for family physicians and their team members. It’s quick, easy and efficient.
The PHQ-9 questionnaire is commonly used for depression screening. These nine questions, with a bonus 10th, can be used to make an initial diagnosis and to monitor severity over time for both newly diagnosed and patients in treatment.
