From Health Care to Self-Care™: New Science-based Strategies for Cultivating Sustainable Behavior Change, Health, and Well-being among Our Patients and Ourselves Michelle Segar, PhD, MPH Have you ever wondered why it is that people who desperately want to take better care of themselves and adopt healthier lifestyles don’t stick with them once their initial burst of motivation fades? This provocative presentation will showcase the science for a new paradigm that better fosters sustainable behavior change and self-care. Dr. Michelle Segar will explain why our traditional reasons for behavior change (e.g., better heath, disease prevention, etc.) keep people stuck in cycles of starting and stopping but not behavioral sustainability. Through story, she will describe the science behind a novel approach to promoting self-care, health and wellness behaviors that is successful across contexts (health care, fitness, wellness, coaching/patient counseling, organizational, etc.). Attendees will leave this session with a more strategic way to communicate about and promote the sustainable behavior necessary for achieving improved health and well-being among their patients and themselves. This session uses story to explain the science behind creating sustainable behavior change related to self-care behaviors (e.g., physical activity, enough sleep). The desired outcome is that participants better understand the specific reasons they (and their patients) are challenged to sustain self-care behaviors and new, easy science-based strategies for becoming more consistent. |

It is inherent for primary care providers to appreciate the risks and benefits of cannabis use. This session will provide an update of medicinal cannabis use, describe the system of cannabinoid receptors and endocannabinoids in the body, and outline results from clinical trials investigating cannabis and its main components. This course addresses those requirements using a curriculum approved by CSAT/SAMHSA and ASAM. This workshop has recently been updated to include an evidence-based curriculum designed by national experts. Course participants are exposed to the highest quality evidence-based practices when using buprenorphine to treat opioid use disorders. The case-based learning formats show learners how to apply this new knowledge. Additional fee applies.
