The opportunity to advocate for patients and family medicine clearly struck a chord in CAFP members, because record turnout was achieved at the 2017 All Member Advocacy Meeting and Family Medicine Lobby Day in Sacramento last weekend.
New CAFP leaders were elected, testimony was presented to the CAFP Board on eight resolutions, AAFP Board Chair and Immediate Past President Wanda Filer, MD gave a rousing keynote speech, the Hero of Family Medicine Award was presented to Tim Munzing, MD, State Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León was our rousing lunchtime keynote speaker and recipient of the Champion of Family Medicine Award, and attendees were thoroughly briefed on CAFP’s key issues and trained to be the most effective advocates possible. Participants also had the opportunity to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow FPs, residents and students from around the state during interactive discussions, trainings, at an FP-PAC reception with Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones, Senator Richard Pan, MD, Assemblymembers Kevin McCarty, Jose Medina and Chad Mays, Minority Leader, and dinners both evenings.
A full account of the meeting will appear in the Spring issue of California Family Physician. If you’d like to be part of this exciting and rewarding weekend next year, mark your calendar now for Saturday and Sunday, March 10-11 for the AMAM and Monday, March 12 for Family Medicine Lobby Day.
